Covered in a layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. There is a large rea of retouching and overpainting in the upper left-hand corner which extends down the left-hand side and is approx. 15cm at widest point although not uniform. Further general strengthening and retouching throughout the foliage on the right-hand side and further general strengthening and retouching within an area in the lower right-hand corner and is 15cm wide by 6cm. There is further irregular retouching and strengthening continuing from general foliage level on the left-hand side. Overpainting with the hillside between foliage and building extending through and across the buildings centre, the water, directly in front of the buildings centre and below and extending further still within the hillside. The general outline and darker shadows of the cathedral have been strengthened in addition to the upper parts of the foliage to the right of the cathedral and several smaller less consistent and insignificant patches to lower edge right hand side and towards the right hand side corner. Stretcher shadow. Varying sized craquelure throughout which is more widely spaced and prominent especially within the darker areas of the lower left-hand corner. Some of the retouching and overpainting has deteriorated and is visible with eye. Minor rubbing to edges and periphery of the canvas. Paint slightly thin in places. Old re-line. In stable overall condition.
