Sailing boats
Signed and dated. (19)63, oil on canvas, 83cm by 163cm
Born in New Jersey in 1924, Gino Hollander was a painter who began his artistic life in New York in 1960 during the height of the abstract expressionist movement, following a successful career as a filmmaker. Part of the illustrious group of abstract expressionist artists working in New York at this time, Hollander was one of the first artists to explore the potential of the versatile and vivid new acrylic paints. After setting up his first studio and gallery on Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village, Hollander moved his family to Spain, where he found his voice as an artist separated from the rest of the art world.
Drawing on a life filled with adventure, Hollander used his paintings to express the human condition and his own inner world. In his words "painting provides me with a constant mirror of my being".
Hollander would eventually move back to the United States, having established a string of galleries around the world. His work is held in numerous public and private collections.
