In fully restored condition. Reline of some age, cleaned and revarnished. Surface somewhat flattened by the restoration process. Varying sized essentially stable craquelure throughout which is exagurated by deteriorating varnish. Stretcher shadow with notable near absence of craquelure to extremities. Scattered minor retouches and areas of infilling mostly to the sitter's face although not exclusively. The odd abrasion/areas of rubbing to edges. Very little to discern in the way of later painting or intervention under a UV light although some of the shadowing to the background would appear to be slightly inconsistent? Surface dirt and discoloured varnish. One small nick to surface just above lower edge centre.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
