. Stiff glue/wax reline. The general surface of the painting is somewhat flattened from the restoration process but retains some integrity to thickness of paint and general impasto. The entire canvas is very pronounced cracking and crazing of varying sizes throughout which is essentially stable, however the discoloured and deteriorated varnish which is taking on an opaque quality is highlighting the crazing even more in its current state. The lighter pigment tones i.e flesh is less effected by this condition issue. There is little to perceive in terms of later paintings, strengthening or restoration under a UV light, but would suggest that some of the shadows and darker tones such as the shoulder and elements of the hair have possible been enhanced. Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
