. In fully restored condition. Re-lined, cleaned and re-varnished. There is likely to have been two phases of restoration. There is retouching to lower right hand corner and a fairly uniform band along lower edge approx. 1-1.5cm in width. There is evidence of further retouching within the shadows and definition of his left hand inner arm. The shadowing on the left hand side of the gentleman's lapel and the outline, definition and shadowing of his outer chest area. Equally the shadows within his white shirt/cravat have had some general strengthening as has his general outline. The face has an amount of small sized and sporadic retouches broadly in line with areas of shadowing and definition. The upper edge has a conceivable band of retouching/strengthening similar to that along the lower edge approx 1-1.5cm in width. Right hand side and edges in general show much reduced retouching in general to upper and lower edge. Old stretcher shadow likely to have been disguised within background. Two minor diagonal surface scratches essentially just to varnish at the genetleman's left hand side of face within background. Surface somewhat flattened and thinned from restoration process. Some light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Odd tiny sized white splash/imperfections to varnish within background etc...
