A Large Early 20th Century Bone Fan, mounted with eau de nil silk and backed with gauze of a...

A Large Early 20th Century Bone Fan, mounted with eau de nil silk and backed with gauze of a similar colour. Of balloon form, the leaf is embroidered with silver sequins of different shapes and sizes, in the design of swags and bows. The monture is lightly carved, pierced and gilded. Height to top centre when closed is approx 13.5 inches or 34.5cm; and An Early 20th Century Fan of Fontange Shape, the monture of light wood painted gold, the fine gauze leaf painted with a design of autumnal leaves, mainly in gold, with four small birds with fluffy chest feathers and inquisitive expressions in the central panel below. Height to top centre when closed is approx. 14 inches or 36cm (2)

Fan 1 - One central gorge stick is detached from the rib. At this point the silk has been damaged to the lower edge of the leaf. At some point the fan has been pinned to something, a pin hole is evident to the top right side and to the left side there is also rust where the shape of a drawing pin can be seen. Fan 2 - The gauze is split in several places, and the top edge has losses. No signature noted.
