A Fan for The Ball of 1906 at Saint Cyr Military Academy, commemorating the Battle of Austerlitz on

A Fan for The Ball of 1906 at Saint Cyr Military Academy, commemorating the Battle of Austerlitz on December 2nd 1805, regarded as the greatest Napoleonic victory. The Ball was held on 24th February 1906 to celebrate the centenary of the victory, Saint Cyr having been established by Napoleon himself in 1802. Although it has moved location several times since inception, the Academy is still regarded as the best in France and retains the name of its first location. The double paper leaf, mounted on basic wooden sticks, depicts the Academy exterior, the battle of Austerlitz, and elegant dancers, in striking black print on cream, and is signed in the top border to the right, Louhardy 1906. The verso with more vibrant design, includes the motto "ils s'introduisent pour Vaincre" and "Premier Bataillon de France. An adhesive label for the fan retailer Maison Bail is present top left. Guard length 9.5 inches or 24cm
The battle scene, in silhouette, is reminiscent of the silhouettes produced by Caran D'Ache for the production of The Black Cat in 1886.

Sold for £140
Estimated at £100 - £200
