. There are six patched repairs to the reverse. Five of which are from approximate centre to point to outer edge with one towards lower left hand corner. An image can be supplied if required. There is a significant amount of overpainting to essentially all of the right hand side background. Diagonal repair with associated re-touching to right hand side section of the gentleman's wig at approx forehead level and is approx. 3 cm in length. Further relatively minor retouching to the tip of the gentleman's nose, lower lip, corners of the mouth and left hand side of chin/lower cheek. In addition to a few further sporadic points across the face. Elements of the hair have had some general treatment. The elbow joint of the armour has had a line of strengthening with a further cluster of small sized retouches to the lower right hand corner, upper left hand corner, & shoulder area. Cracking with small loss to the repair within the hair. Cracking and small losses to other old restorations within the eyes, nose and cheek area in addition to the restoration of the armour. Diagonal crack with associated retouching approximate centre left hand side background. Stretcher shadow. Canvas slightly loose on stretcher. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Fine to widely spaced craquelure mostly apparent to flesh tones etc...
