Brooks, Thomas. A Cabinet of Choice Jewels or A Box of Precious Ointment. Glasgow: Printed by J. Mennons for George Beaton, 1786. 8vo, full calf. Brooks was a Puritan divine, who served as chaplain to the Admiral of the Parliamentary fleet and preached before the House of Commons. During the plague year he ministered in Moorfields and was there during the fire. This work, first published in 1669, shows a clear understanding of the fragility of life and the importance of preparing for that one which follows.
