A Circa 1840's Chinese Carved Ivory Brisé Fan, Qing Dynasty, the twenty-two inner sticks and two guards extremely intricately carved, figures and dragons on the upper guard, different figures on each stick tip, involved in a variety of activities. The gorge is carved with tiny flowers, the main body of the fan with pagodas, trees, figures and animals, a further band with a river scene with buildings and several boats, a small oval vignette at the centre. Below the ribbon is a further carved and pierced border of flowers and leaves. The rivet is finished with diamanté. Guard 18cm. The fan is secured into a fan shaped wooden case with wall attachments, unglazed

The fan is dirty and badly warped, having been glued onto a green velvet lining in the case. The lower guard is broken and has not been fully examined. There are several slivers of ivory to some sticks.
