We are happy to provide Condition Reports to prospective buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale. We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition. A Condition Report is an honest expression of our opinion, not a statement of fact and is provided as a service to the seller. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage prospective buyers to inspect an item in person where possible. Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers, or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.

We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report.

Auction: Fine Wine & Whisky, 21st Apr, 2023

A bottle of the exceptional and highly prized Macallan 1940 50 Year Old Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky is the highlight of the sale, offered with an estimate of £12,000-18,000 (plus buyer’s premium). Macallan 50 year old is one of the most collectable of whiskies, which has dramatically increased in value over the last twenty years. The bottle contains whisky distilled on 1st January 1940 and laid down by Macallan for thirty years, before the cask was bought by independent bottlers Gordon and Macphail.

The fine wine in the sale is headed by a three-bottle celebration case of Krug Clos Du Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne, on offer with an estimate of £5,000-7,000. It was released in 1998 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Clos du Mesnil, perhaps the most famous vineyard in the Champagne region. Amongst an interesting and broad offering of other wines in the sale is a bottle of Grand Vin De Château Latour 1961 Pauillac-Medoc (estimate: £2,000-3,000), and two bottles of Château D’Yquem 1933 Lur-Saluces (estimate: £1,000-1,500). From private cellars, too, are good collector’s bottles by leading producers such as Château Latour and Château Du Pin.
