each piece of the tea-service compressed circular and on spreading base, the lower bodies part-fluted, with shell and foliage-heightened gadrooned rim, the teapot engraved with a coat-of-arms on one side and two crests on the other, comprising a teapot, with wood handle and carved ivory finial; a cream-jug and a sugar-bowl, the kettle, stand and lamp similarly decorated, with wood handle, finial lacking

The crests are those of Cust and Brownlow and the arms are those of Cust quartering Brownlow and Bankes and impaling Newnham for William Cust (1787-1845), youngest son of Brownlow Cust, 1st Baron Brownlow (1744-1807), of Belton House, near Grantham, and his wife Sophia, daughter of Thomas Newnham, whom he married in 1819.

The teapot, cream-jug and sugar-bowl fully marked underneath. The teapot further part-marked inside cover. The marks are clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the engraving and high points. The wood handle is perhaps replaced. There is some cracking and staining to the ivory, which shows no indication of have been altered or added to in any way. The kettle, stand and lamp marked as expected. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The chain which holds connects one of the pins to the body has become detached from the pin. There is no finial on the cover.
