A WW1 Brisé Fan by E Kees, probably ivory, painted with a central and rather poignant scene of open countryside outside a town, with the famous French artillery gun, the 75mm, from which the French flag flies, and a proud golden cockerel perched on the barrel. To each side are painted the cornflower, the daisy and the poppy, wartime flowers of the field and still significant as such today. A military medal features at the top of the upper guard. The recto is painted with the year of 1915 and six allied flags, those of (L to R) France, Russia, Serbia, Belgium, Great Britain, and Italy, a banner beneath with the motto "Union Fait La Force" (Strength through Unity). The signature for E Kees is to the left. The sticks are linked with tricolour ribbon.
