A Striking Large Circa 1890's Wooden Fan, the monture lightly carved and clouté with steel....

A Striking Large Circa 1890's Wooden Fan, the monture lightly carved and clouté with steel. The double black gauze leaf is embroidered throughout with tiny circular silver sequins, the top border set vertically with slender oval spangles. Together with A Very Decorative Fan of the same period, the bone monture carved and pierced, clouté, coloured in two shades of gold and some silver. The cream silk leaf is decorated in vertical panels, either delicately painted with vibrant flowers, embroidered with sequins, or a mix of net inserted in oval panels and bordered with sequins and gold thread. The verso is plain.
And finally, The Swallows Perched on Telegraph Poles, A Large Late 19th Century Fan, the wood monture painted a dull gold and decorated in silver, the silk satin leaf painted with swallows in flight amongst blossom and others perched on wires. The verso is plain cream cotton.
Guard lengths 13.5 inches or 34.5cm (3)

Sold for £90
Estimated at £50 - £100

. Fan one: the monture is sound, each layer of the gauze has some splitting, not necessarily on the same fold so the fan is relatively strong, and the point where the leaf meets the upper guard is virtually all the way through. Fan two is sadly in a sorry state with a large amount of splitting to the silk. Fan 3 is in good strong clean condition.
