A Circa 1880's Japanese Ivory Fan, both the gorge sticks and guards inlaid with Shibayama, of vines and flowers. The paper leaf is a wood cut in colour of a riverside scene, featuring a lady and dog to the left, the lady in conversation with a pedlar or other tradesman, to the right of whom an elegant lady in ornate kimono and carrying a parasol is also engaged in conversation with another. The leaf is signed/ stamped to the left. The verso shows several butterflies or insects approaching a clump of delicate wild flowers. An ivory ojime, painted and inlaid, hangs from a cord with a double cream silk tassel. Guard length 14 inches or 35.5cm
