MONETA NOVA NORDLI around inner circle enclosing quartered arms of Eppstein-Münzenberg and date, rev. crowned armoured bust of young Charles V right (Holy Roman Emperor 1519-1556) holding orb & sceptre, rev. , (MB 60), some weaknesses in parts of legends, otherwise good edge and surfaces with particularly well-struck portrait, AEF SCARCE; and Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, 6 Schilling 1725 (24mm, 3.81g), obv. PIE IUSTE ET HONESTE around ornate mirror-image ‘CF’ monogram (Duke Karl-Friedrich 1700-1739), rev. VI SCHILLING FURST SCHLE HOL MUNTZ 1725 B H, (KM 218), good edge and surfaces, AVF to VF SCARCE

An interesting and eclectic mix of coins spanning over 1000 years of history will go under the hammer in Tennants Auctioneers’ Coins & Banknotes Sale on 15th February. Amongst the nearly 600 lots are rare and fine examples such as a Gold Proof Set issued in 1937 to mark the Coronation of George VI, an AE Drachm produced in Alexandria mint in the reign of the Ptolemy III Euergetes (246-221 BC), a Portuguese Joao V (1720-56) 4 Escudos (Peca) minted in Lisbon in 1727 and two consecutively numbered Bank of England white five pounds.
