An Impressive 19 5/8-Inch Upright 1d. Coin-In-slot Polyphon Musical Box On Disc Bin, ser. no. 19639, the mainspring pin date-stamped 24/3/[18]99, with massive horizontal spring motor with caged spring to great wheel, sprung fly governor on four-pillar open motor chassis, blacked cast iron fluted baseplate, twin combs on titled and boss-starred gilt cast bedplate, twin left and right coin chutes, penny in slot plaques to both sides, in figured walnut veneered case with typical arched glazed door, Rococo C scroll fret corners and twin tapering columns and cup and cover centres, top with linier egg-and-dart moulding and 'Polyphon' title incised centre front, top with twin finials and with later canted-corner gallery pediment with triple turned finials, raised panel base, single coin frieze drawer on the period oak veneered disc bin with plain top, fielded panel drop front with brass handle and matching columns upon plinth base and bun feet, with later gilt paste-polished highlights to casework reliefs as a whole, with approximately 42 discs forming a large library of music comprising both period and new-cut discs all with stencilled titles, with winding handle and a good quantity of pre-decimal pennies -

Footnote: On the inside of the disc bin drop front panel is an interesting period label revealing details of a warning from Polyphon about stealing from musical box coin drawers, using a theft case from a man named F. Soloman of Norwich, convicted of theft from a box in 1899, protected under celluloid panel.
