The Wounded of St. Mary’s War Hospital, Reigate.
An interesting collection of manuscript memoirs written by the wounded of WWI, 1915-16.
Freda Meryon Chance, a V.A.D. at St. Mary’s Red Cross Hospital, encouraged patients in her care to write accounts of their personal experiences in her notebook. There are 32 contributions from soldiers drawn from a wide range of regiments. Several accounts give details of action at the front and the circumstances which gave rise to their injuries. A number of soldiers contributed drawings, one a photograph.
Well worn leather binding, lacking back-strip, upper board detached.
