Ralph Williams worked in the Department of Ornithology at the Natural History museum, then became self-employed in forestry and wood carving. He became an elected member of the Society of Wildlife artists in 1977. His work has been presented to H.R.H Princess Anne and purchased by the late Queen Mother.
