Miscellaneous items, including ancient and modern coins, from the estate of the eminent numismatist, the late Professor Michael Metcalf: Coins include: Spain, a 5-coin set of sterling silver coins 1990 (2000,1000, 500, 200 & 100 pesetas) commemorating 500 years of exploration & discovery, with certificate, in wooden case of issue, FDC; gold-plated proof commemorative coins from the series 'British Banknotes' (4); a modern reproduction of an early Anglo-Saxon gold thrymsa, Vanimundus type A circa 655-675AD; Bristol silver sixpence token 1811 (DH55); Roman silver denarii (2): Antoninus Pius edge chipped & Domitian holed; over 30 18th & 19th century copper tokens, including merchants' tokens (farthings, halfpennies & pennies) almost all corroded and/or verdigris stained; 150+ detector finds (Byzantine, Roman etc) mostly base metal, almost all in poor condition, badly corroded & majority unidentifiable
