An 18th Century Ivory Fan, the slender monture carved, pierced and painted in colour, the gorge...

An 18th Century Ivory Fan, the slender monture carved, pierced and painted in colour, the gorge with a central cartouche painted with chinoiserie and two side vignettes, one with a basket of flowers, the other with pink roses, complementing two further areas of pink roses that separate, at each side, two ladies carved in the ivory. The lower gorge section features a band painted with shells and roses. The leaf, vellum mounted à l'Anglaise, is painted in deep colours to the recto, showing a fête champêtre with two couples, the ladies wearing particularly well portrayed bodices, two other male friends looking on. The verso shows a maiden at rest in a country setting, the top and side borders painted with exotic fruits and flowers. Guard length approx. 11.75 inches or 30cm

. The fan has been removed from the frame for the images to be taken. Some rubbing to the outer edges of the leaf. Seen from the verso, very yellowed Sellotape is present to the top section. The fan does not wish to refold. The frame is available within the hammer price should the purchaser wish to take it. Old repair to the upper guard.
