A Regency Ivory Fan with tiny gorge and barrel head. The guards are applied with white metal, cut away into a classical design and inset with an oval featuring a memorial and trees, to the upper guard, an empty oval on the lower guard. Inset with gold foil. The gorge sticks overlap to produce a complex design. The recto, well painted with lovers in a landscape, outside a rural cottage, aside a stony waterfall, the maiden dressed in white, the shepherd playfully holding aloft a floral garland, just out of her reach, sheep by his feet. Edged with gold foil. Delicate painted border to the otherwise plain verso. Guard length 6.75 inches or 17cm.

. Leaf folds and sides of leaf quite rubbed. Good detail to both the faces and the depiction of the Regency gown. Losses to the carved ivory gorge, and some additional slivers have been added as supports from behind.
