A Late 19th Century Brussels Point De Gaze Fan, the monture of bone carved on the guards and gorge with sunflowers and leaves. The needle lace leaf is supported by pale wood ribs. The design, worked in very fine detail on handmade net, features a tight central spray of roses, very tiny flowers, and leaves. To each side, a more open spray of roses with shaded petals and strap-like leaves, leading to intricate and unusual flower heads of perhaps hydrangea blossom. The top corners each feature a large rose, the top border a myriad of roundels with differing and very complex lace fillings, these being continued into the corners beneath the roses and down the sides. A very competent lace maker will have been required for this design. Contained in a card fan box covered in black silk bearing a J. Duvelleroy, London label inside the lid.

Sold for £180
Estimated at £180 - £250

. The leaf has at some pint been removed and dipped in tea to give a beige shade. It has not, however, caused damage or crinkling to the leaf which remains crisp. A couple of dark rust marks noted on the ground. The box is sound but the silk is worn.
