Royal Family Autograph Letters

An outstanding archive of letters written to The Mackintosh of Mackintosh in the first half of the twentieth century, including many personal letters from the British Royal Family, comprising:

Three page Autograph Letter Signed (ALS) from Prince George (King George V), at Abergeldie Castle, Sept. 3rd. 1905, regarding shooting at Moy, with stamped and franked envelope;
Three page ALS from Prince George (King George V), at Marlborough House, August 9th 1908, commiserating on the loss of grouse at Moy, with stamped and franked envelope;
Four page ALS from the Duchess of Albany, then in Germany, fundraising for the National Hospital for the Paralysed & Epileptic, Aug 10, 1909 with subsequent letter of gratitude, two page ALS, Aug 21, 1909, both with stamped and franked envelopes;
Three page ALS from Prince George (King George V), at Abergeldie Castle, Sept. 21st. 1909, discussing grouse shooting at Moy and deer stalking and grouse on Deeside, with stamped and franked envelope;
Four page ALS from Prince Edward (Edward VIII) at York Cottage, Sandringham, November 19th, 1911, discussing shooting at Windsor and the gift of some books, with stamped and franked envelope;
Four page AL believed to be the last letter from The Mackintosh’s son Angus Alexander Mackintosh, September 25th 1918, written to his grandmother from Canada. He died in North America on the 13th October 1918. ‘His last letter’ written at head of letter and on envelope. The envelope suggests that the letter was diverted from Inverness to Roy Bridge, arriving after his death;
Post Office Telegraph, from King George V at Sandringham, undated but 1918, expressing sympathy to The Mackintosh and his wife for the loss of their boy;
Post Office Telegraph from Queen Mary at Buckingham Palace, undated thank you message;
One page Typed Letter Signed from King George V at Buckingham Palace, 18th August, 1920, requsting schemes for unemployed ex-servicemen;
Three page ALS from Prince Albert (George VI) at Balmoral, September 21st, 1920, on shooting at Moy, with franked envelope;
Three page ALS from Prince Albert (George VI) at Balmoral, December 20th, 1920, regarding shooting at Moy;
Five page ALS from King George V, at Balmoral, Sept. 13th, 1921, discussing shooting at Moy and Sandringham, with franked envelope;
One page ALS from King George V, Dec 3rd, 1921, at Buckingham Palace, a thank you for a Salmon book, with franked envelope;
Three page ALS from George V at Balmoral, August 28th, 1922, thanking The Mackintosh for grouse shooting at Moy, with franked envelope;
Three page ALS from Queen Mary at Balmoral, August 28th, 1922, thanking The Mackintosh for a week at Moy, with franked envelope;
Two page ALS from King George V at Balmoral, Aug 30th, 1922, discussing grouse shooting at Moy and Balmoral with details of the size of the bag, with franked envelope;
Two page ALS from Prince Albert (George VI) at Buckingham Palace, January 24th, 1923, following his engagement to Lady Elizabeth Lyon, with franked envelope;
Two page ALS from Queen Mary at Buckingham Palace, 27th April, 1923, thanking The Mackintosh for the gift of some skins, with franked envelope;
Four page ALS from King George V, at Balmoral, September 2nd, 1923, discussing a visit to Moy and grouse shooting, final page stained, with franked envelope;
Post Office Telegram from King George VI at Windsor, 17th Ju, 1937, expressing concern about an accident;
A Sandringham Stud 1921 card, 4 pages, stallion, brood mares etc;
Four Sandringham Game cards for November 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th, 1913. Guns include King George V, The King of Norway, Prince Alexander of Teck, Lords Vane-Tempest and Lovat and The Mackintosh;
Four page ALS from Alex Mackintosh (cousin), of Fairburn, Felixburg, Rhodesia, 12th June, 1934, regarding his son - education, shooting, etc. and farming in Rhodesia, with envelope complete with franked stamps;
Two page ALS, unidentified author on State headed paper, undated, confirming news of McNeil of Barra;
Four page ALS, unidentified Mackintosh, at The Hermitage, Nairn, 5 February, 1913;
Receipt from David Johnstone, Antiquarian Bookseller, 23rd September, 1903, for eighteenth century military Commissions;

[Alfred Donald Mackintosh of Mackintosh, 1851-1938, the 28th Chief of Clan Mackintosh and Chief of Clan Chatton, Lord Lieutenant of Inverness, 1905-1938. Addressed as The Mackintosh of Mackintosh, he and his wife divided their time between the Mackintosh family home at Moy Hall near Inverness and Cottrell House in Glamorgan, his wife’s family home. A friend of King George V, he devoted a great deal of his time to hunting, shooting and fishing.]
