Footnote: The inscription, verso, reads in full: "Elephant Battery of W.F. (Walter Ferrier) Graham when a subaltern, he is on pony on right as you look at it. Done by his father, General Graham, from a photograph sent home by him, W. Sargeant (?) (daughter)".

Hart's Army List of 1886 records Capt. W.F. Graham as serving with the Garrison Artillery, Northern Division, 1st. Brigade, 5th. Battery, Halifax.

Some foxing to the sky. The mount is very foxed and would I recommend replacing it. Formerly the property of a retired Colonel Spread. The vendor's family purchased the house and some of the contents on his death in the late 1960's. This painting was part of his estate.
