A Large Circa 1890's Black Gauze Fan, mounted à l'Anglaise on black wooden sticks, the upper border edged with a fine narrow black bobbin lace. The guards and gorge are clouté with silver metal dots and feature lightly carved flowers which are painted in soft blue and gold. The leaf is painted in shades of soft blue and turquoise, and embroidered with tiny gold and blue sequins. Musical instruments feature in the centre and side vignettes, along with two charming scenes of a figure in Pierrot costume playing music to his lady. The verso is undecorated. Guard length 13 inches or 33cm plus lace. Contained in a cream silk covered card fan box with domed lid, a label for J Duvelleroy 167 regent Street London fixed to the lid interior; A Dainty Circa 1900 Cream Gauze Fan, of scalloped balloon form, mounted on carved, pierced and silvered bone sticks. The silk leaf, mounted à l'Anglaise, is embroidered with silver sequins of various sizes and forms, and swags of tambour work in metal threads. Guard length 6.75 inches or 16cm, overall height as leaf protrudes, 8.25 inches or 21cm; and A 1920's Chinese Wood And Paper Tourist Fan, with brightly coloured leaf (3)

Black fan: Generally good: two inner sticks/ribs are detached as the rivet is missing, the sticks consequently all loose (all present). Cream fan, some light foxing to the silk and next to the upper guard the silk is just starting to split. Sequins bright and shiny.
