English School (19th century): Portrait Silhouette of a Lady, said to be Joanna Gamble (née Rutledge, married Samuel Gamble at St Mary's, Kilkenny, 21st September 1803, died 22nd March 1819, mother of Mary Rigby, wearing period costume and gold earrings, her hair in ringlets, facing left, extensively inscribed verso, black ink with some gilding, on paper, oval, 8cm by 6.5cm; and Five Further Examples, two of ladies, three of gentlemen, one inscribed D Kinnaird Nairn Nairn Shire NB 1823, all black ink on paper, some highlighted in gold, all oval, various sizes (6)

All are on rather badly faded backgrounds, the backgrounds having turned yellow, with some foxing and other slight damages. Dirt is trapped between the underside of the glass and the paper. All are contained within their original black ebony and lacquered wooden frames with gilt metal inset surrounds. All are decorated with original hanging devices, some with flowers and foliage, others with acorns and oak leaves. Some of the frames are somewhat scratched, dented and cracked, with some dirt and stains.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
