Circa 1803, A Dainty Fan, with royal blue double paper leaf mounted on slender bone sticks made to celebrate the recovery from illness of the British King George III his illness commencing during 1788, he was said to have recovered in February 1789. Such was the popular relief that this fan (and other earlier variations on the theme) would have been carried at balls as the populace celebrated. The recto, embroidered with gold sequins, with the motto "Long Live the King", the verso plain, the stitches visible. The King died in 1820. Guard length 6.5 inches or 16.5cm
