The following 36 lots (9 to 44) comprise the first part of a large and valuable collection assembled over the past 50 years by a 'gentleman from London,' a distinguished professional historian and writer. The collection consists almost entirely of English hammered and milled coins and includes a number of rarities, several of which have not appeared on the market for at least ten years. The remaining coins from the collection will be entered in forthcoming Tennants coin auctions.

York Mint, rev.. EBiAICI CIV around small cross & pellets within beaded circle, obv. C N V T around a patriarchal cross, one letter at the end of each arm, letters of R E X in between; full, round, well struck flan, lightly toned with underlying lustre, VERY RARE virtually EF (ex-Lockett Collection June 1955)
