French Royal Binding Sermons de S Augustin sur les Pseaumes... tome treizieme, 1739, all edges...
French Royal Binding Sermons de S Augustin sur les Pseaumes... tome treizieme, 1739, all edges gilt, Morocco gilt binding with armorial to both boards, the armorial appears to be that of one of the daughters of Louis XV; Adelaide, Victoire and Sophie, 'the Mesdames of France', the colour of the leather matching that of Victoire. At some time the armorials have been skillfully altered, the lozenges and the top of the coronets are on replaced leather, the coronet may have been converted from a crown, suggesting that the book may have had a slightly earlier Royal owner [see Fletcher, Foreign Bookbindings in the British Museum ..., 1896, plates 63, 64, 65]
