A spectacular collection of 18th & 19th c. BOTANICAL WATERCOLOURS, housed loose within a fine 19th c. black morocco album.
Contents include:
1) 11 watercolours painted on vellum by George Dionysius EHRET (1708-1770), all signed and titled, 480mm by 330mm average, dates between 1758-1768, misc. subjects, some with insects. Pencil provenance notes at the foot of each: with eight from the Arnos Grove sale of 1907, and three from "Beckford".
2) 4 botanical watercolours on paper by Ferdinand BAUER (1760-1826), signed but not dated.
3) 5 other botanical watercolours painted on vellum, one signed "Ann Lee, 1772".
4) 5 other botanical watercolours on paper, including one signed and captioned by John Frederick Miller "from St Lucia … to Mr Forsyth, Gardiner to Kensington, 1794".
5) misc. other works, prints & approx 25 fine mid 19thc botanical & mycological watercolours, by "E.F."
Overall condition of the collection excellent, a few pieces with mount marks verso

Binding: lower cover scuffed, with edge ware, particularly to spine. N.B. maroon morocco Ehrets: Vellum giner- soiled only with occasional cinkling, some browned/foxed, extremeties- Azaleas Gentiana most affected, and normal Geranium fore-edge. Cactus Butomuis glued to remains of guard strip. Muller (on laid paper) with splashes of wash and (old) finger soiling. Ann Lee signed drawing a little stained Colours: vivid and unfaded Bauer watercolours- There are signatures but no inscriptions. One rather time- stained Unsigned drawings with glue residue to verso from previous mount. One smaller continental gouache badly surface soiled.
