A 19th Century Percussion Cap Large Bore Punt Gun by Sherwood, Portsmouth, the 269cm (106") iron barrel octagonal at the breech and bearing traces of sludge green paint, the lock plate engraved with a duck shooting scene and signed Sherwood, Maker, Portsmouth, with folding trigger, the walnut half stock with chequered grip, the fore-end set with a large iron ring and with a gimbal fixing towards the middle of the barrel, the butt has had a large piece removed and the break has patinated over, the butt piece with the steel plate is present, overall length 312cm (123")

Action works, holds at full and half cock. Pitting to metalwork and flaking to the paint. The butt of the stock has been cut off at a diagonal, but the piece is present. The stock has bruises and scuffs. The fore-end has a sliver of wood missing from each side below the barrel. A very heavy gun. The barrel has deep rust pitting around the breech making any proof marks impossible to see. The muzzle opening measures 4cm (1 1/2'')
