Julian McDonald (20th century) American
Portrait of a young black boy, three-quarter length, seated on a chair
Signed and dated 1934, oil on canvas, 86cm by 59.5cm
Sold for £6,500
Estimated at £1,200 - £1,800
Re-lined, cleaned and re-varnished. Sporadic re-touching in the upper left hand side in the background, between the chair splats and towards the upper right hand side corner and edge. Odd small dash of strengthening to attire and again very minor touches to his arms and face, especially and more consistently along the left hand side. Overall good stable condition. We do not know anything about the artist regrettably. We have not been able to find a listing but seemingly someone skilled in his craft. The vendor stated that the painting was purchased in New York in the 1960
