The Sprite quickly became affectionately known as the "frogeye" because its headlights were prominently mounted on top of the bonnet. The car's designers had intended that the headlights could be retracted, with the lenses facing skyward when not in use but cost cutting by BMC led to the flip-up mechanism being withdrawn. The Austin Healey Sprite is a much loved British sports car, used for both leisure and motorsport because of its affordability and practicality, the Austin Healey Sprite was developed into a formidable competition car, BMC entered it into international races and rallies.
This car has had only 4 owners from new has done very little and when not used has been well stored. The engine has been up rated slightly which help it cope with the road and traffic conditions of today. Comes with a comprehensive history file.
Restoration carried out in the late 1980s, which included a new floor and wire wheels, bodywork stripped and repainted in Old English White by a professional company. The engine has been uprated which runs on unleaded. 2013 new inner and outer sills, new tyres and new brake parts, with MOT. 2018 front and rear brakes, with new parts fitted. With photographs showing re-spray, the car was formerly red.
Engine runs strong with good oil pressure, gear box good, but first gear noisy, full weather equipment
