Countryside Idyll: A Mid-18th Century Fan, with mother-of-pearl monture, gilded and silvered and painted, the guards having a gold figure and a shell-like form to the tip, the gorge sticks highly decorated with large gold figures backed with burgau, gold cherubs flying around, along with birds. The double paper leaf depicts a rural scene of a couple, a lady with a flower basket and a young boy with a sheep at his feet, all clearly wealthy and wearing elaborate costume. To the right, a blue vignette en camaieu, depicting a windmill, and a further amusing garden scene with three young children playing in front of flower-garlanded columns decked with flowers. The verso is painted with a river scene, a fisherman seated whilst a lady observes, another approaching with a large net. Guard length 29cm

The leaf and folds are rubbed. Extensive repairs to the tip of the leaf seen from the verso. Some gorge sticks have been reinforced with mother of pearl from behind.
