Joseph Sold Into Slavery: A Mid-18th Century Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the leaf possibly Dutch, the monture carved, pierced and gilded, the guards with a female figure and flowers, the gorge with a large central roundel, gilded figures within, two side vignettes of classical design. The vellum leaf, mounted à l'anglaise, is painted with a large central scene of Joseph being sold into slavery, coins changing hands, a keeper and two camels in the background. One smaller side vignette depicts a dog on a riverbank, ruins behind, the other side depicting a shepherdess seated by a riverbank. The verso is painted simply with a shepherdess and a sheep. Guard length 28cm

One broken inner stick, crude repairs to several others, including the lower guard. The leaf has nicks and is rubbed on the folds. Evidence of further restoration to the verso, and this side has orange marks.
