The Toilet of Venus: A Mid-18th Century Mother-of-Pearl Fan, with carved and pierced monture, the sticks heavily and brightly gilded, the gorge with vignettes of elegantly dressed men and women. The guards are less elaborate but have figures, and a turquoise stone to the rivet. The double vellum leaf shows Venus at her toilet, attended by several winged cherubs, one brushing her hair, another attending to her feet, a group bringing her robes. A helmeted soldier in a blue cloak is offering gifts. The verso depicts a couple in the garden playing ball with a small dog. Guard length 29cm

The leaf is quite rubbed, and has a few repairs to the lower edge noted from the verso.
