The Marriage of Joseph to Asenath: A Marriage Fan, second half of the 18th century, double paper leaf mounted on fine gilded and silvered mother of pearl sticks. Asenath, an Egyptian, wearing a gold crown, her groom Joseph, an Israelite patriarch, at her side, comes to be married at an arbour garlanded with flowers, observed by men on horseback. To the left, a stone plinth with the words "Joseph épouse de Asena fille de Potiph". To the right another such plinth is carved with skinny white oxen signifying seven years of famine. The double paper leaf is painted on the verso with a bedchamber from which a young man takes his leave, his lady calling him to return. The guards are gilded and silvered and the gorge sticks are embellished with gold cherubs. Guard length 29cm. Together with a purple velvet covered fan box, cream lining, the label printed inside the lid "By Special Appointment to H.R.H The Princess of Wales, from Madame Elise 170 Regent Street London

The leaf is rubbed and has been previously restored, some folds still requiring attention. There are at least 2 gorge sticks that have been restored but have broken again.
