An 18th Century Ivory Fan, the guards carved and pierced and parts of the design painted in...

An 18th Century Ivory Fan, the guards carved and pierced and parts of the design painted in pale blue with gold highlights. The gorge is carved and painted with the same colours, the blue shiny, ground- up mother of pearl, the lower section painted in several colours with small oriental figures, a butterfly and a rose. The double paper leaf shows a central bridge over water, a man crossing, an adult and child to the left, two women to the right, some aspects highlighted in gold. The verso is cream with only a basic drawing of flower stems. Guard length 28cm

The leaf may have been shortened to the sides, the blue shaded vignettes are not equal? Two gorge sticks ae not secured. A few repairs to leaf folds.
