A Rare Set of Four Bromsgrove Guild Lead Figures of The Seasons, early 20th century, modelled by Walter Gilbert, Spring holding a nest of chicks, Summer with a butterfly on her left hand, Autumn holding a leafy branch above her head, and Winter swathed in a loose robe, on rocky moulded bases, Winter with moulded mark, 108cm high

Provenance: Purchased by H C Moffatt of Hamptworth Lodge, Salisbury (the garden designed by Thomas Hayton Mawson), and thence by descent

The Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts was established in 1884 by Walter Gilbert, initially producing decorative ironwork but later producing bronze and lead work as well as wood and stone carvings. By 1908 they had established a retail outlet in Victoria Street, London as a result of their most famous commission, the iron and bronze gates outside Buckingham Palace

. All in weathered condition. Summer possibly missing an items from right of right shoulder. Autumn with damage to leafy branch (see images). Spring figure has a split in one finger. All the figures have holes on the tops of the heads, two of which have been filled.
