A Fine and Rare Gold, Enamel and Diamond Set Pocket Watch, sold with its Original Chatelaine...

A Fine and Rare Gold, Enamel and Diamond Set Pocket Watch, sold with its Original Chatelaine and Fitted Leather Case, signed Matthey & Compe, circa 1783, gilt fusee verge movement signed and numbered 1254, pierced balance bridge, enamel dial with Arabic numerals and signed, multi-coloured enamel borders, pendant numbered 1254, back cover depicting a garden balustrade and urns decorated with multi-coloured flowers, highlighted with diamonds and set on a dark blue guilloche enamel background, plain outer glazed case, 55mm wide, gold chatelaine with panels decorated with a lake scene with birds, dogs and a sailing boat, multi-coloured enamel borders, attached with gold enamel tassels and a blank fob seal, clasp stamped A.V, 17cm high

It is believed this watch was owned by Johann Anton Engelhard circa 1783 and gifted to the current vendor's ancestors

14.07.14, Outer case with gilding faded, outer case glass with scratches, case back main enamel panel with very minor losses to the borders and minor scratches, one diamond is missing and three are loose, bezel with enamel lacking, dial is clean, movement fully wound, not working, balance starts moving when applying slight pressure to the contrate wheel, chatelaine with enamel lacking and with surface scratches, outer fitted case is worn.
