Cecil, Theophania The Psalms and Hymn Tunes used at St John's Chapel, Bedford Row. Printed for the Author, 1814. 4to, half leather over mottled boards; pp. 62; provenance: Miss Agnes Campbell, 1819 (her leather booklabel to upper pastedown), MS inscription "T Cecil" on title-page, prob. author. St John's was a proprietary chapel in Bloomsbury, home of a large evangelical congregation. Rev Richard Cecil became minister there in March, 1780; he died in 1810. When he became minister there, it was described as being the largest Church of England chapel in London. Having been much neglected, it required a large sum for its repair. (Pratt, Josiah: Life of Richard Cecil). Eventually the roof fell in, in 1856, and the chapel was demolished in 1863. The Henry Lincoln organ which Theophania played was moved to Thaxted Parish Church.
