Lot 40 of 1325: George Gray (fl.1854-1873): A Painted Porcelain Plaque "The Taming of the Shrew ", after the original by Charles Robert Leslie (1794-1859), 19th century, depicting six figures in an interior, signed BR and dated 1859, 32cm by 45cm The original oil on canvas by Leslie is in the collections of the V&A Museum (no.FA109 [0]) and was painted in the early 1830's. The painting depicts as scene (Act IV, scene III) from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.
