Sale: Sotheby's London "The British Sale: Part II - Paintings, Drawings and Watercolours" Lot 136, 15th June 2000

Mary Ricketts married Admiral William Carnegie, 7th Earl of Northesk (1758-1831) in 1788. Carnegie whose family seat was Ethie Castle, Arbroath was third in command at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Mary inherited the Balmerino Pearls believed to be a gift from Charles II and is believed to be wearing them in this portrait.
