A Medieval Gold Pilgrim Finger Ring, 15th-16th Century, the head engraved with a scallop shell within an octagonal bead border, the shoulders with traces of foliate decoration, the interior inscribed in Gothic lettering "ay ne we tho lerne", maximum diameter 23mm, bezel 8.5mm wide see illustration

Found Sedgwick, Cumbria, 2017, Treasure No. 2017-T320. Sold with a photocopy of correspondence regarding this

The scallop shell on the present ring may well be that of a heraldic device however the scallop shell is more usually associated with pilgrims and in particular St. James and the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Northern Spain.
