A French Mid-18th Century Ivory Fan, the double leaf plain to the verso, mounted on carved, pierced

A French Mid-18th Century Ivory Fan, the double leaf plain to the verso, mounted on carved, pierced and gilded sticks, the upper guards backed with pale pink mother-of-pearl, the recto shows a courting couple in 18th century dress, seated outdoors to play a card game, accompanied by a chaperone. The cartouche is bordered with gold sequins which further meander across the leaf, accompanied by further detail in metal thread and flowers, formed from coloured sequins. Guard length 10.75 inches or 27cm. Together with An 18th Century Ivory Fan, with similar monture, the double fabric leaf plain to the verso, the recto painted vertically in gold and colour, showing flaming torches, flowers and musical instruments, alternating with embroidery to the folds and simple sequin decoration. Contained in an 18th century tube covered in green mottled paper. Guard length 10.75 inches or 27 cm (3)

First fan: Purchased on the 14th July 1979 from Mrs Pamela Hudson for £45.00
Second fan: Purchased at Christie's SK on 5th of December 1978 for £20.00

Some restoration to the folds, some splitting to the recto held by the verso, and some wear to the folds. The tube is in good order. Some strains to the verso of the second fan.
