By 1991, Rover was working of a new mid-engined sports car similar in size (and expected to be similar in price) to the recently launched Mazda MX5 and Lotus Elan. The final product, the MG F, was finally unveiled on 8 March 1995, and went on sale in September that year with a 1.8 litre 120bhp engine and was joined several months later by a 145bhp VVC (variable valve control) version. It was hugely popular and received plaudits for its excellent ride and handling. The MG F received a mild facelift in August 1999 and with its revisions was renamed using the historic TF name in January 2002, but production was halted, following the collapse of the MG Rover Group in April 2005.
The MGF remains a fantastic entry level classic that is more and more appealing to the younger enthusiast due to its cheaper price tag.
On the road they are sprightly and handle superbly due to its mid engined benefits and complementary geometry. Styling is modern but with a classic flare drawing from sixties and seventies supercar design.
This particular example is finished in striking metallic blue with sports cloth interior, showing a very reasonable 82,000 miles runs sweetly and performs as it should. The condition can be said to be extremely nice and with some further detailing and cleaning would present itself as a good candidate for the for the collector and enthusiast.
