In 1947 the VW Type 2 Bus was born! Dutch importer Ben Pon got the idea from the motorised trolleys used to transport parts around a VW factory in Wolfsburg. They were made from a stripped down Beetle chassis.
On 8th March production began at the rate of 10 vehicles per day. For the next four decades, the basic design remained the same and roughly 5 million buses were produced over that time. The Type 2 filled a much needed gap in the market, with its rear engine and box on wheels appearance. The uncomplicated design meant VW was able to turn out 90 different body combinations over the first 5 years. Variations included buses, pick up trucks, fire engines, ambulances, beer wagons, ice cream vans, milk floats and the well known and well loved camper.
1979 production of the T2 Bay ceased and it was replaced by the T25, although the Bay is still manufactured in South America.
1988 Auto-Sleepers introduced the T25 / T3 Volkswagen Autosleeper Trooper Camper with a hand-slide pop top. It was a direct replacement for the Autosleeper VHT Hightop camper and had a similar but improved specification. The interior had cupboards along the side behind the drivers seat and the rear seat converted into a 3/4 width double bed. It was based on the modified VW T25 / T3 platform that could be distinguished from the earlier version by its rectangular twin headlights.

This 1988 T3 Auto-Sleeper is an excellent original example with original paintwork and correct factory Decals. The interior is completely standard with correct factory leisure fittings and fixtures, including swivel chair, blown air heating, electrical hook-up and dining table. Upholstery is in good order as are the melamine surfaces on cupboards and surfaces, and even includes the factory issued colour crockery.

Mechanically, the van starts easily, gear change is smooth and the engine ticks over nicely. We consider this camper to be an excellent example with only 73k on the clock.
