Coracle Press [Cutts, Simon] A collection of ephemera and publications of the Coracle Press...

Coracle Press [Cutts, Simon]
A collection of ephemera and publications of the Coracle Press including David Willetts, Transit of Venus, 1975; Yoko Terauchi, Paper & Wire & Lead, installation catalogue 1986; 3 copies of the Little Critic Pamphlet (2, 4, and 5) and 2 catalogues (1991 and 1992) along with 34 various items including postcards and small artworks and a broken run of the Coracle newsletter 1-16 (lacking 14) in an envelope addressed 'Karl' [Torok].

According to the first Coracle newsletter, when Simon Cutts moved to London he found the 'geographical separation' from Stuart Mills unconducive to working together. Whilst the 'aesthetic liaison' was presumed to continue (as indeed it did) the two began their own work. For Mill's this was Aggie Weston's, for Cutts, the Coracle Press. Over the years 1975-87 (the time the press was in London) it would hew closely to the path forged by Tarasque, giving a home to avant garde artists, poets and creators. However, unlike Tarasque's focus on poetry, Coracle branched out into gallery installations and larger artistic works, represented by artists such as Erica van Horn, Andy Goldsworthy and Stephen Duncalf. The emphasis on physicality continued up to the press' final bookshop project workfortheeyetodo and beyond into its current incarnation in Ireland. Despite some of the work represented here, Cutts' particular interest seems to be in the white space as form and expression, continuing his early fascination with the poem as object into books as the whole of their parts, intermingled and inextricable.
