A Fan Produced in Conjunction with The 1889 Universal Exhibition In Paris, the monture of carved and pierced black wooden sticks, the double fabric leaf printed with an exterior view of the Trocadero on the recto and the Palais des Machines on the verso, the latter being built expressly for this exhibition and later demolished, in 1910. The detailed depictions include several visitors in foreign dress; and A Large Commemorative Fan for the World Exhibition held in Lyon, France, in 1894. The pale wooden monture is mounted with a double paper leaf, the recto showing three locations, being Notre Dame de Fourvieres, the Quai du Rhone and the Lac de Génève, surrounded by large and blousy roses and other colourful flowers, with a Nun in a vignette to the right. The verso proclaims that the fan is a gift from the producer of Flamande pate, obtainable everywhere, his annual turnover being 3,500,000 tins. Printed by Paul Lemenil, Paris.

We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage prospective buyers to inspect an item in person where possible. Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers, or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
